Developing the Leaders the Future Requires

Leadership formation, identity development and future-ready thinking for high schools, universities and youth leadership programs.

I partner with educational institutions to design and deliver transformative learning experiences that help young people become more self-aware, purpose-driven and capable leaders before they enter the world of work.

Whether through keynote lectures, semester modules, masterclasses, leadership programs or curriculum partnerships, my work develops the internal foundations from which exceptional leadership emerges.

The world our young people are entering bears little resemblance to the one education systems were originally designed for. Students need far more than knowledge.

They need to understand themselves
They need to think critically
They need emotional maturity
They need sound judgement
They need resilience
They need the ability to work across difference
They need to know how to lead before they are given positions of leadership

These capacities rarely emerge through traditional education alone. They are developed intentionally. That is where my work begins.

This is about preparing students not simply for careers, but for the responsibility of shaping the future

WHAT I DO

Rather than teaching students simply what to think, I help them understand:

Who they are
How they think
How values shape decisions
What purpose means in practice
How identity influences leadership
How to navigate uncertainty
How to contribute meaningfully to organizations and society

My sessions are intellectually rigorous, highly interactive and grounded in more than twenty-five years working across leadership development, anthropology, psychology, organisational transformation and human development.

WHO I AM

3. CURRICULUM PARTNERSHIPS
I partner with institutions to design and deliver modules that strengthen leadership, entrepreneurship and human development programmes. This includes curriculum design, teaching, assessment and facilitation.

4. LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
Multi-session leadership journeys delivered over several weeks or semesters that allow students to develop rather than simply receive information.

Rather than simply teaching content, every engagement is designed to cultivate the qualities that allow students to thrive throughout their careers and lives.

Most leadership education focuses on skills. My work develops the person who will eventually use those skills. Students leave with more than information. They leave with greater clarity about who they are, how they make decisions and the kind of leader they want to become.

This work draws on twenty-five years across executive leadership, anthropology, psychology, neuroscience, organisational development and human potential.

It is practical. It is evidence-informed. And it is designed to produce lasting transformation rather than temporary inspiration.

Institutions typically engage me because they want students who:
· Demonstrate greater self-awareness
· Think independently
· Communicate with confidence
· Make better decisions
· Understand values-based leadership
· Navigate uncertainty
· Collaborate across difference
· Transition more effectively into professional environments
· Become leaders worth following

Academic Rigor across Sciences
Grounded in research, anthropology, leadership science and human development
Real World Experience
Twenty-five years advising executives, governments, entrepreneurs, NGOs and multinational organisations. Students learn leadership that has been tested in practice.
Transformational Learning
Not simply lectures. Experiences that reshape how students think about themselves and the contribution they want to make.

Every institution has brilliant students.
The question is not whether they possess talent.

The question is whether they are developing the inner qualities that allow that talent to become meaningful leadership.

My work exists to help educational institutions bridge that gap.

Whether you are looking for a guest lecture, leadership program, curriculum collaboration or semester teaching, let’s explore how we might work together:

TESTIMONIALS

Working with Barbara to engage young women in the Elegant Grind network presented an opportunity to open up as young women and break fears of collaborating. The information she presented enabled me to do a personal audit and I discovered my strengths and hidden talents. Young Women in Elegant Grind network have a changed mindset too on how to build strategic partnerships. The response rate to the discussions she held was quite high as they were intriguing!

Barbara has played a very pivotal role in our training sessions under the Youth Leaders league (Y2L) training we are currently running in Zimbabwe. As Youth Leaders League (Y2L) Zimbabwe our aim is to create a critical mass of young transformers on the continent of Africa through a 12 lesson leadership and development curriculum…I have to admit that we got more than we expected. Barbara went above and beyond as the training she provided to the students played a pivotal role in bringing a mind-set change to them.

The students loved her so much that they wanted more time with her after the class was over...Barbara has been instrumental as a mentor to all the ladies that are in our network as she has provided advice and provided a platform for discussion for such topics as finances, collaboration, love, adopting good habits etc. Her expert advice and knowledge has really helped the young women in our network to understand the importance of collaboration especially in our Zimbabwean economy right now.

Her knowledge has also helped the young women to also look into foreign investments. As this is virtual mentorship I am very happy with the fact that Barbara is always available when the ladies need clarification and also have questions and also the fact that she regularly posts topics which constantly ignite discussions.

I appreciate the work you have done with Nduna Girls and our grant beneficiaries, interns and volunteers; who range from 16 – 25 with all their various careers and aspirations. Sometimes its hard to steer so many bubbling and yet diverse groups of young people with their various characters and responses, but you have done so well and had them talking about stuff and reaching out to you for more support. Thank you Barbara. Looking for many more years of coaching and collaboration!
